Source Channel · retold from Mark 4:35–41

At the end of a long day, Jesus gives his disciples a short instruction: “Let us pass over unto the other side.” They send the crowd away and take him with them in the boat. Other boats are with them too.
Out on the water

Halfway across, a great storm of wind rises. The waves beat into the boat, and it fills with water. And Jesus? He is in the back of the boat, asleep on a pillow.
The disciples wake him. Their words, as Mark records them:
“Master, carest thou not that we perish?”
– Mark 4:38
One sentence changes everything

Jesus gets up. He does not speak to the disciples first – he speaks to the storm.
“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
– Mark 4:39
Then he turns to the people in the boat:
“Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?”
– Mark 4:40
The reaction

The disciples are deeply afraid – no longer of the storm, but of what they have just seen. They ask one another: “What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:41)
What this has to do with you today

The account hides nothing: the fear was real, the water was real, and Jesus was in the boat the whole time. If the waves are breaking in on you right now – you are not alone in it.
